We've Got The Jazz is a monthly series curated by local musician David Lavoie and featuring a rotating lineup of Calgary's top jazz players. Each edition highlights an artist, album, or group shaped by jazz's rich history and lasting influence.
We've Got The Jazz returns on Friday, July 10th with a tribute to one of the most celebrated recordings in jazz history: Sonny Rollins' *Way Out West*.
Released in 1957, *Way Out West* is widely regarded as one of Rollins' defining works. Recorded with just bass and drums, the album showcases Rollins' unmistakable sound, boundless creativity, and playful approach to improvisation. More than sixty years later, it remains a landmark recording and an essential listen for jazz fans.
For this edition, Mitchell Prentice, Dan Goldstein, and Adam Pettigrew will reinterpret selections from the album, exploring the spirit and spontaneity that made *Way Out West* a jazz classic. Expect an evening of adventurous improvisation, deep grooves, and timeless melodies from one of the music's most influential voices.
As always, guests are encouraged to enjoy dinner and drinks throughout the evening. Reservation times are staggered around our musical sets to create an easy flow for both diners and listeners.
