We've Got The Jazz! Vol. 5 - The Music of Wayne Shorter

We’ve Got the Jazz is a monthly series at ODB led by local musician David Lavoie alongside a rotating lineup of Calgary’s top jazz players. Each volume pays tribute to an artist or sound shaped by jazz’s rich history.

Volume 5 turns its focus to the music and legacy of Wayne Shorter, one of the most influential composers and improvisers in modern jazz. Featuring David Lavoie with a Cody Kubik on Sax and Fabrice Ramalingum on drums, the evening explores Shorter’s expansive and deeply expressive body of work.

A central figure in groups like Art Blakey’s Jazz Messengers, Miles Davis’s Second Great Quintet, and the co-founder of Weather Report, Wayne Shorter helped redefine what jazz could be. His compositions are lyrical, searching, and unpredictable, balancing structure with freedom and inviting musicians and listeners alike into new musical territory. His influence continues to shape jazz, fusion, and contemporary music today.

Guests are encouraged to enjoy dinner and drinks throughout the evening. Reservation times are staggered around the music to create a relaxed flow. Smaller groups are seated for up to 90 minutes and larger groups for up to two hours. Live sets begin at 6:30 pm and 8:00 pm.
