We've Got The Jazz! Vol. 8 - A Tribute to Stanley Turrentine & Shirley Scott

We've Got the Jazz is a monthly series at ODB led by local musician David Lavoie alongside a rotating lineup of Calgary's top jazz players. Each volume pays tribute to an artist or sound shaped by jazz's rich history.
For Volume 8, Lavoie takes a break to make way for Mark De Jong, who is a Calgary saxophonist, composer, and bandleader who currently teaches at the Mount Royal University Conservatory. De Jong will be joined by Brandon Smith and Jeff Sulima.
Together, the trio will be tipping their hats to Stanley Turrentine and Shirley Scott — a duo whose sound defined the groove-forward side of soul jazz. Their recordings together in the '60s paired Turrentine's warm, blues-soaked tenor with Scott's deep-pocket organ playing, creating music that feels effortless, intimate, and built for a room like this.
Guests are encouraged to enjoy dinner and drinks throughout the evening. Reservations are aligned with the music to create a relaxed flow. Live sets begin at 6:30 pm and 8:00 pm. Smaller groups are seated for up to 90 minutes, larger groups for up to two hours.
